Dandy Moment: Dr. Maya Angelou Mom & Me & Mom Book Signing in NYC

The cultural phenomenon, that is Dr. Maya Angelou shares her life story of a her untraditional bond, and her unique connection to her biological mother in her latest book: Mom & Me & Mom. Dr. Angelou gives a deeply personal and vividly rich description of her childhood, young adult years and shares her own challenges of being a mother in this fascinating page turner.
Being in the presence of Dr. Angelou will be a moment in my life I will never forget. To hear the sound of her voice speak so clearly and passionately about the importance of "words" and "love" seemed as if she was reciting one of her internationally acclaimed poems. At 85 years old she is an institution of knowledge and a true African American Griot. After reading this book, one cant help but feel a mysterious strength and venerability that  it takes to be a parent, and unconditional heart it takes to truly love another human being.

Dandy Moment: Screening of 42

42 Screening with Friend and Co-worker Emily Hawkins
If you don't see another bio-pic this year make sure "42" is the one you see. The compelling true story  is based on the courage of Jackie Robinson, the first African American professional baseball player, who broke the color-lines of Major League Baseball by playing for the Brooklyn Dodgers. Starring an all-star cast of actors including Harrison Ford, Nicole Behaire, T. R. Knight, John C. McGinley, Christopher Meloni and Chadwick Boseman as Jackie Robinson. 42 will leave audiences feeling motived, enlighten and inspired and hopefully a little embarrassed by the painful discrimination that plagued America and its beloved American pastime for so long. Run to the nearest movie theater, enjoy a hot dog or popcorn and be prepared to cheer the entire time, because 42 is a home run.

Dandy Moment: Easter Sunday 2013

Lady T has been one of my best friends for 20 years, we grew up together in Michigan and both moved to the DMV (DC,Maryland, Virginia )area where we graduated college. After I graduated from Howard University I moved to New York City, but I make it a point to return back to the DMV several times a year to spend time with my friends. For the past 4 years I pack my bags and travel down to Washington DC/Bowie Maryland for our annual Easter sunday weekend. Chef-Yarbrough created a wonderful feast for her family and friends and I decided to share the photos with you-Enjoy.
