Album Review: Esperanza Spalding -Radio Music Society



After winning the 2011 Grammy for  Best New Artist for her acclaimed album Chamber Music Society, Esperanza Spalding is back with a new album entitled Radio Music Society. The 27 year old artist,originally from Portland, Organ delivers a eclectic mix of music that is as diverse as her own genetic make up. Being born of an African American father and mother who is Native American, Hispanic and Welsh, Esperanza has taken pieces of these cultures and infused them in to her own signature,melodic jazz style.

Radio Music Society picks up where Esperanza's previous albums left off. Throwing you into a musical world that true Jazz lovers can appreciate, you can here the use of live instrumentation being executed in each song. Not only is Esperanza writing, composing, playing the upright bass,bass guitar and singing on this album, she is educating us on the beauties of musical fusion. Esperanza's sound takes listeners everywhere musically from  contemporary jazz, to neo soul, to the bossa nova. It's no wonder her talents are drawing in new audiences to jazz  and satisfying true jazz heads alike.
